Dorpsstraat 3 - Die Wonen Hier Niet
This month is all about music in my mother tongue, Dutch, here at Finding Flight Cases. Why? Because there is so much good music being released in the Dutch language. I would love to share some of it with you. I started this month with Shagor, a Dutch black metal band. Hersielingh was the song I selected for that week.
This week's song is very different, as this band is hard to put a label on. They combine various music genres into a danceable beat. I am talking about Dorpsstraat 3, the band hails from IJmuiden/Velzen-Noord, and managed to sway me in their favour during the Popronde in 2023. I had not expected that this would fit into my taste of music, as usually I am not the biggest fan of synths and electronics. However, the energy they brought to the stage was hard to ignore. Their music is fascinating. I think even if you cannot understand the lyrics, you might enjoy the unique melodies and vibes they bring to the table.
Since the concert in 2023, I have been following Dorpsstraat 3. I have written about them before when they released the song Dans met Ons (translation: dance with us), which was the song of the week. This song and the song that is this week's song of the week can both be found on the long-awaited debut album that was released on the 14th of February 2025, called "Staal op Staal" (translation: Steel on Steel). This week's song is called "Die Wonen Niet Hier" (translation: They don't live here). For this track, they also made an official music video. By the way, the video is not new, but I completely missed the release. This month's theme was a good moment to put the band back into the spotlight.
The video and the lyrics reference the big corporations that do not give a shit about their employees and the environment. They have no moral compass. For anyone who has ever worked for a big corporation or in a job that you just did not enjoy, the video will feel very familiar. With this video, they pull from their live experience growing up in the shadow of Tata Steel, which is located close to where these guys grew up. They probably know people who work there or used to work there. There is lots of industrialization in this part of the Netherlands, and this seeps through in the music of Dorpsstraat 3.
This song hits in all the right places; the lyrics are incredible, and the beat is very mesmerizing. I am curious to learn if you might enjoy this song? Dit nummer weet alle snaren bij mij te raken, tekstueel zeer sterk met een fantastische beat.
